Try the following and see if it helps: 1. Open the Mail app on your Mac. 2. go to Mail Preferences/Settings (CMD + Comma). 3. From the Tool Bar, select Accounts. 4. Select your Gmail account from the Internet Accounts table. 5. Select the Mailbox Behaviors tab. 6. Navigate to Gmail/Trash, and set the destination to Trash. (You may find this is set to Archive). 7. Close Mail Preferences/Settings by pressing CMD + W.
