It's not. It's still called Alex.

can you tell me how to download Alex?
I should probably get a mixer. I’d probably only need about 8
channels. I’m just a folkie after all.

Alex must be downloaded.
The problem with your audio isn't the Mac, it's probably your Y
adapter.
You are correct that Mac Mini's don't have microphones. Your last
one didn't, either. Mine from 2012 didn't and the one from 2020
doesn't. I have mine connected to my 32-channel digital mixing
console. I use the speaker jack in the back strictly for VoiceOver.

I have some more questions. this is a 2023 Mac. Mini and it’s
running Ventura. on my old one I had a Y in which were plugged my
speakers and my headphones. that isn’t working very well on this
one. is there a way to have both plugged in to this computer?
there’s no place for a microphone either I suppose I’ll have to
use a usb mic.
the voices available are different. did they do away with Alex and
if not, where is he?
thanks.

Lorie,
If the Mini from today is anything like mine from 2020, it has
two USB-A ports and two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, all along the
back just above the heat dissipation vent, with the HDMI port in
between. By the way, if you're not going to be using your Mini
with a monitor, get yourself a Fit Headless donble for that HDMI
port. Costs about five dollars. It's just a couple electronic
components inside a can that make your Mini think there's a
monitor plugged into it when there isn't one. You are correct,
though, that there is no SD card slot. Another thing they took
away is the power lamp. The Mini I got in 2012 had a bright red
LED power indicator on the front edge. The new ones don't.

I just got a new Mac Mini. there are some things about it that are different
from my old one. I can't find an sd card slot. does it have one? also there are
only 2 usb ports and I need at least 3. I'll probably have to get a usb hub.
what kind do I need?
there are some other little ports on it and I have no idea what they're for.
thanks.
