No right answer for this. Portrait or landscape depends entirely on the app you are using. Some of the iPhone apps only work in portrait on either platform for example. How you hold it is a very personal decision in terms of what's comfortable for you. It depends on whether you're in constant contact with the screen or just holding it while reading a book.
