Hi, There is a third way to check this as well, though this is mostly useful to users with either a visual impairment but someone who has a bit of sight, or is fully sighted.
Almost all the way down the left bottom corner on your Macbook is a small button. The size of a paperclip. If you hold it, a light will blink on. Small diodes will tell you how many bars of battery are left. It also works if the Macbook is turned off.
