How did I do that, you ask? Let me say it was an I/O error, as in idiot
operator! ;)

Yes, I was deleting apps on my third home screen and deleted one too
many without thinking very hard about it.

Factory reset makes me shudder. Not that I couldn't do it. But I've put
a lot of work into configuring things  the way I want them. I suppose
the right backup might save me from that. On the other hand it's not
going to be a problem very often, so I'm cool with the occasional
workaround.

By the way, I ran into the issue because Siri didn't understand the app
name I wanted opened. So I:

1.      Deleted the app
2.      Enabled add to home screen and app library in Settings.
3.      Reinstalled the app.

That wasn't that hard. Easier than a factory reset!
