An M1 Mac is not that old, and shouldn’t be having an issue with a Sequoia update. I have 2 Macs with M1 processors and my wife has an M1 iMac. Neither of us has had an issue with the 15.4 update. Have you tried restarting your Mac and see if this does anything? If prompted, I would attempt to do the update again.
