I don't understand what laptop or net books has to do with the Mac Mini and
upgrades, other than cost. I would not want Apple to make the Mac Mini in to
a laptop or note book. Just a small fairly power desktop.

You can get all that stuff now. You don't get it in a Mini, because a Mini
is supposed to be cheap.

You can buy all sorts of Mini ITX PCs that are extremely small desktops.

There are also lots of sub-notebook computers like you talked about. Way
smaller than netbooks. I've owned several. I've owned several Toshiba
Libretos , a Casio Fiva, and a few models from the Sony Vaio U series. Many
of those had to be imported from Japan. They're very expensive, because
they're ultra small, high powered, and aren't popular. They're not popular
because they cost so much, because the screens are way too small, and
because people only think that it would be cool to type on a keyboard that
small. Once you use a computer like that for any length of time, you realize
why they aren't popular. There is hardly any room for a good battery, even
after spending $2000 - $3000, the CPU and other components are way under
powered when compared to most laptops because of making it small, and the
keyboard is too cramped for any significant amount of typing.

Yes, unless that they do upgrades to the others that would put them well out
in front. Now this being said, Apple does not put but 4 gb in the Mac Mini
but in the latest firm ware it supports 8 gb and know people with 8 gb in
them. I also know that Apple does not offer a faster HD for the Mac mini but
it supports a faster HD of 7200. I will send or post the article from the
place showing that. It might have been Mac world or something like that. But
we or I can dream. I dream of a small platform desk top that has quad
processer, 4 gb min and greater and fast HD and a great sound card and Video
card. Listing the V card last in this case because I am blind now. We are
not there yet in Mac or PC but we are getting closer every day. I also dream
of a laptop that is just as small say 8 to 10 inches long by say 4 to 6
inches wide and not over 1 inch thick. Not there yet but maybe in 5 years or
so on the laptop. I think maybe 3 or less in the desk top. Of course this is
just my thoughts and dream.

I've seen no rumors on the sites about a new Mini.

At some point, of course, Apple will update it, simply because it will be
out of date. However, at the moment, it isn't extremely out of date, so I
think it will be a good while before a product refresh.

When they do refresh it, though, what will probably happen is that you'll
get a slightly newer generation of processor, and that will be because Apple
isn't able to easily continue to purchase Core Duos.

You won't see Minis with 8GB of memory. The Mini is designed to wet your
apatite for Mac, so that you'll buy something from one of the main product
lines: iMac, MacBook, or Mac Pro. If they gave the Mini everything that is
available in those other machines, then you wouldn't have a reason to buy
the others.

You might not like that, and feel that the Mini should do more, but that is
how Apple sees the Mini. It is your cheap first hit. lol

Hi, have anyone heard any rumors about a new Mac Mini any time soon? I was
hoping they would update it with the more ram like to 8gb and larger
processer like maybe the new quad processer like they are putting in laptop
now.
