Hi Nene, Yes, I can save the scanned material for later use. How you do that will depend on which scanning software you use.
With my HP printer/scanner, I installed 2 applications from the App Store. The HP application is used for setting up the printer and creating an HP account. The HP Easy Scan application allows me to save scanned output to various formats. If I save to one of the text formats, then the software automatically performs OCR. The OCR isn’t quite as good as I used to get from ABBYY FineReader on Windows, but that software is quite expensive and the HP Easy Scan software is free. There are other scanning/OCR applications in the App Store, but I haven’t tried any of them. You can acquire scanned images using the Image Capture Application that comes with MacOS. The scanned image is saved to a jpg file. When you open the file in Preview, VoiceOver focus is on the image. Pressing VO + Shift + l will cause VoiceOver to read the text within the image. I used to use this method when I had a Canon scanner that connected via USB. Do you already have access to a scanner?
