This is done by going to a file of the file type you would like to associate with a particular app, and opening Get Info, using CMD + I. You can then navigate to the Open With area, where you will find a Pop-Up, that will let you choose an application to use with the selected file. You can then navigate to a checkbox to assign all files of this type to the selected application.
You will need to repeat this process for each file type you wish to associate with the application.
