I used Drafts when it was free. I may revisit this for both
platforms. I already have a couple free text editors on the iPhone but
but got nowhere trying to paste into documents already on iCloud Drive.

I don’t have an easy way to create a text file on the iPhone,
although I hear that Draft is a good app for this. So I use the Notes
app to do this. Once I’ve pasted the text into a Note I can then
open it on my Mac, copy again and create a text file in textedit.
A bit convoluted, but simple and quick.
