what did it say in your status bar? if it says it was charging try hitting 
VO-F1 twice quickly to pull up your app chooser and see if your system dialogue 
is open. If it is and the window is there, hit CMD-w to close it. To check 
battery hit VO-M twice to pull up status bar and find battery, it should tell 
you if you're charging and how much is left to charge or if you're not, then 
how much battery time there is. Sorry if I've given you too much instruction, 
trying to be thorough. :)
