I don't Quite a few folks on the list use a dedicated multichat program. There is also a area within the iChat application to tell it to read aloud new messages using the default TTS. 1. Start iChat 2. type command-, to bring up the preferences pane. 3. Interact with the toolbar and select alerts. 4. There is a drop down box to select an event. Choose"Message received" 5. Find the check box speak an announcement and check this.
I believe the program "growl" also can watch for events in various applications and then take actions. I have this as a item to perhaps look into, but it is pretty low on my list right now.
