Dean, I was able to set my m20 up as a braille display using a usb to serial
no problem under window-eyes, and I'm assuming under jaws it would work the
same way. As long as the data parameters are set up properly the usb port
should function just like any other serial port. I was for sure able to use
windisk this way to move files two and from my braille lite m20.

Jaws doesn't support any hardware anymore. Support comes from the manufactures
of the hardware. So I'm not surprised they played the no support game, but
that should not necessarily mean it doesn't work.

Regarding the apple, my guess is no, this won't work. Oddly enough apple
officially supports all the devices on it's supported hardware list. I'm not
sure though if mac OS 10 even supports serial ports in the 10.5 and 10.6
incarnations. Plus, there's no way in voiceover to force detection of legacy
hardware as far as I know.

I left my usb to serial addapter at a clients house so I can't try it myself,
but I primarily wanted to chime in on jaws with usb to serial, since it seems
to me that this should work even though it's not "supported".
