Hi Donna I press VO+command+f4 to move keyboard focus.
I was initially simply turning curser tracking off but nothing was happening then I tried moving keyboard focus and realized I could then type in the edit box. As you wrote, it's great to have several options since you never know if for whatever reason one option stops working temporarily or one finds an option just easier.
