You can bring up the dashboard with F12, assuming you have Expose set up that way, which it is by default. If you have a MacBook/Macbook Pro, you might have to use FN+F12 instead. Newer Macbooks and macbook Pros (that is, newer than the 2007 Macbook I replaced with the Pro) use F4 as a sort of dedicated dashboard key.
