How do you turn on the LED light and leave it on?

The quality of lighting in the room is a big deal. When I first scanned I had poor results but then moved to somewhat better lighting and could read the letter in front of me with a fair amount of errors. I'm not after perfection though, just after something that can give me enough information to make heads or tails out of things.
