This is very strange because I just tried VO-Return to select text from your 
message and it worked just fine.

As you were selecting the text, did you hear a wooshing sound? That sound 
should indicate that text is being selected.

However, I always prefer to use the shift key to select text wherever possible 
as it requires fewer key strokes and is the standard way of doing it.
