hi tim, thank you for the info which helped solve the problem after severel restarting attempts, i had a system message at last telling me to press the option key five times to turn mouse keys on or off. by the way, sorry for other members who did not understand what my problem was because i wrote that first post using an old machine and i did not have much control over checking what information i thought i wrote.
