Thanks, Ricardo for the location of the bookmarks folder. After I sent that message, I looked in the Safari menu and found an export bookmarks option. My friend with the huge bookmarks collection is a seasoned mac user and I assumed that such an export feature didn't exist, else she wouldn't have wondered how she'd get me her links collection. silly me.
