Hi Mike,

I did recently install growl, but Adium isn't set to use it for any notifications. The other tip about turning off groups in the view menu solved it perfectly.

For some reason, adium installs an old version of growl, but upgrading to the latest version improved the way growl interacts with voiceover. In fact, in the display settings there is an option to speak growl notifications instead of showing them on screen. I have this turned on so that if some future application doesn't have it's own option for speaking events, I can have it use growl if that is an option.

While I'm writing, I want to thank you for your incredible series of podcasts. Hearing you demonstrate things helped to clarify stuff that I had read in other places. I had almost decided on a Mac already, but your podcasts settled the issue. These files should be put together in one place, and prominently linked on sites dealing with voiceover. It was a coincidence that I heard about them at all, and then I had to dig way back into the BlindCoolTech archives to get all of them.

Thanks,

Justin

Do you have growl installed? I think adium offers to install that, and this can cause problems with voice over, if growl is installed, you might try removing it.

Hi all,

I'm getting some strange behavior from voiceover when adium is running. Whenever someone signs in or out, voiceover will say "row 1 expanded" as if I was working with the list of contacts. This happens if I am not even in the adium window. The row number is different each time, probably referring to the row that contains the group that the contact belongs to.

I have Adium linked to my Facebook account, so I have a lot of contacts, and they are constantly coming and going. I turned off the audio notifications, but hearing table rows being expanded all of the time will soon drive me to stop using Adium with facebook. Is there a setting somewhere that can be changed to stop this? I'd prefer it to be something I can do in Adium. Changing a voiceover verbosity setting would lose output that may be useful in other situations. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin
