You realy aught to give QOS a closer look, especially on a good implimentation. 
 I mix a lot of different traffic and it really helps smooth things out.  
Slingbox, Xbox Live, VOIP, VPN, yada yada all at once and adjusting for their 
unique characteristics.

Even on simple applications it can make a difference.  Streaming audio being 
one.
