From my email of June last year:

which worked just fine. From checking around it also adds support for ogg in iTunes. Just download the file and then copy the plugin to /Library/QuickTime.

Didn't know if this was a well known solution but it was news to me.

iTunes can convert files to MP3s. You can set this up in the iTunes 
preferences, I believe. Apple uses the Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) for music 
files if you're looking for something with higher quality.
