Hi Holly,

I don't experience any speaker hiss on my iPad. Bryan Smart reported on the Macvisionaries list that this was one of the reasons he was returning his 3G+Wi-Fi iPad back in early May in a post titled, "Returning my iPad". He speculated that this might be related to the iPhone 3G issue. I have read some accounts of some users reporting speaker hiss in the Apple Support forums, so I think it's a possible issue, but not the norm. Speaking as another iPod Touch user who got an iPad, I have to say that I like using the iPad a lot more than I thought I would. Mine is a 3G+Wi-Fi, so I got to use the GPS navigation apps for the first time (even without turning on AT&T service), though that's only a small part of the appreciation. (And I have to say that I don't spend my time playing YouTube videos, movies, or TV shows, although I know that's supposed to be one of the attractions.) I think you'll both really like your iPads once you get used to the difference in layout and navigation. Be aware that some apps written for the iPad are likely to use landscape mode as the default orientation (just as iPhone apps defaulted to Portrait mode), and that even if the app displays in both modes you may not see all the options if you use Portrait mode. I now navigate differently with VoiceOver since owning an iPad -- I'm more likely to directly touch the screen and familiarize myself with the app layout instead of relying on flicking. Oh, and tell Darcy to stick with the original Moxie (in Portrait mode) on his iPad.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi all. Darcy and I both just got iPads yesterday. We are both having this problem. My ipad speaker constantly emits a slight hiss. Even if its asleep it does this, I've tried turning off voiceover and it still does this. Is this something anyone else has experienced. I really don't want to have to take my new toy back to the store. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Holly
