Hello All: When I purchased my iMac I immediately decided it would be necessary, if only for a time, to install Windows via Boot Camp or Fusion. Based on much research and the collective wisdom gleamed from the group, I opted to acquire/install Fusion.
One of the more salient factors in my decision to install via Fusion was everything I heard about the ease in which a blind computer user could independently perform the complete installation of Windows using Fusion. This has not quite been the case for me. First, with very limited vision, I struggled to find the product key required to commence the installation. After several hours of utter frustration, I decided to contact Microsoft directly to solicit assistance in perhaps acquiring an alternate product key by phone. Subsequent to providing the Microsoft representative with my part and order numbers, a new product key was given to me. Thank you Microsoft for the means of circumventing an otherwise inaccessible step in the installation process. For the benefit of anyone else needing similar assistance, contact Microsoft at: 1-800-642-7676. I opened Fusion; chose the option to install a copy of Windows; selected to have my virtual machine be more isolated and then allowed the installation wizard to take over. Having fallen asleep during the installation, I was awaken by what I thought was the sound of Windows starting. Hurray! The process was successfully completed! Hmmm, or perhaps it was not. The virtual machine, running Windows 7 Professional, appears to be installed, but I am not able to move past what appears to be a Windows desktop screen. Furthermore, when I shut the virtual machine down and restart it, I do not hear anything from Windows, including the start-up tones. I should note that I continue to receive a dialog box reminding me to install the virtual machine tools, which seems to be yet another problem because the install does not happen when I click the option for it to do so. Have I done something wrong that has made my experience in installing Windows through Fusion more frustrating and seemingly less accessible than what I have heard regarding the experience of so many of you? What would you recommend I do to enjoy greater success in the installation process? Any guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Marketoe A.
