Thanks; I found another way, given I'm using a Mac book Pro keyboard; I set a 
shortcut through Keyboard Commander, right-option+d, to take me to the dock; 
works like a charm.  I'm trying now to figure out how to set a commander 
shortcut to go to a specific application's background window and zoom it, 
rather than open a whole new instance of the app, as is my only apparent 
choice...
