Even on the windows side of things, dancing Dots no longer develops the scripts
for Sibelius which is now up to version 6. The last accessible version through
scripts was for version 3.x. There was someone developing open source scripts
for version 5 but I'm not sure where that currently stands. Notation is
especially difficult to deal with from an accessibility standpoint. What made
it a bit easier in sibelius was the fact that there was a sort of control panel
that displayed all of the parameters for the current note position, that is,
pitch, duration, position in measure, articulation, etc. What made it possible
to have JaWS speak the various parameters was, of course, the scripting.
Unfortunately, the whole success rested on having all the windows positioned
just so and if anything was moved or out of place, there would be errors. Also,
if a new version came out, many things were broken and people were chronically
left behind in terms of versions.

I have to say, it's one of those things that's sorely missing for blind users
in general but especially on the Mac side of things.
