Thanks Scott.  I have checked the port and all seems well.  The strange thing 
is that I seem to not be able to recreate the error message stating that mail 
cannot verify pop.gmail.com.  I understood that message to be a security risk.  
I will try to set up the account again since I may have been on the right track 
after all.  I deleted the account so I will try to add it again.  :)

I had tried to copy the error message to paste in the e-mail but I was 
unsuccessful
