If you don't need your Windows machines to see your Mac, then you
don't need to turn on this option.  Also, you might try navigating to

smb://WindowsMachineName

where WIndowsMachineName is the name of your windows box.  If notthing
else, you might get a error you can look up in the Macintosh help
files.
