So the questions are how paranoid are you. Things to think about: 1. Do you have a router / firewall between you and the internet? 2. Do you have modern 64 bit or higher encryption on your wireless?
As long as the above two points are met correctly, and you don't try to use FTP outside of your lan, then you should be safe. The problem with FTP is that the password must be transmitted unencrypted, so anybody that can watch your network traffic can get your password.
