Stickies visually emulates what so many people sometimes do with sticky notes: they literally stick them right on the screen. If the program is running, the notes will be visible on screen. They do have an option for transparency so people can leave them up and not be too distracted. I don't know of any reminder functionality. I suppose it might be useful but I think it's really meant to emulate a real sticky note stuck to the screen. You can create multiple notes and save them. When you launch the program, all of the notes appear. You can cycle through them with Command-` (accent). I use Stickies all the time just to jot down quick bits of information for later transfer to whatever area is appropriate. For example, while it's possible to enter a contact into Address Book, it's often way too inefficient, especially if one needs to use some customized fields and change work/home settings, etc. Now, I haven't tried this but, if Stickies could detect data like address or date to be able to bring up a contextual menu to "add to Address Book" or "create new ical event," that would rock.
