Hi Donna,

If I'm understanding the situation correctly, there are two ways to watch
movies on the Apple TV. The first involves renting movies or tv shows through
Apple. if you do things this way, you don't need a subscription to netflix
since you aren't dealing with them at all.

The other option is to watch movies through netflix. In this case you have a
monthly subscription to the service, but you are not charged separately for
each rental.

The catalog of content available through iTunes may have some items not
available yet on netflix, or the other way around. If I had an apple TV, I'd
probably do much of my viewing through netflix for no extra charge, and then
check the Apple catalog if I couldn't find something I wanted on netflix.

The Apple site makes it seem that you can only connect this thing to an HD
Television. I still only have a basic Standard Definition TV, so if this is the
case I'll have to say no thanks to this unit. Does anyone know if you can use
this with an older Television?

Hi all,

My husband and i are sitting here looking at the Apple site, and can't figure
this out. Do you have to have a monthly subscription to NetFlix? We don't
want to have to pay a monthly fee, and then rental fees on top of that. So,
stated another way, can you just rent on an ass-desired basis, or do you also
have to carry a monthly subscription?

Thans, and happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating it.
Best,
Donna
