Eye TV allows you to easily change the channel and to view your recorded
programsl both of which are accessible with Voiceover.
The program guide is not accessible with Voiceover, making it impossible
to schedule recordings in advance.
It is certainly possible to start a recording at any time with a hot
key, but if the program guide were accessible, this would be a fantastic
computer based DVR solution.

Hi All
We currently have a Windows PC and have it connected to our main TV. We
constantly use it for a DVR. It has a TV tuner card and with Windows Media
Centre and the remote control, it works really well, especially for my sighted
family. We use a blue tooth keyboard and mouse for when the computer is being a
computer so to speak.
I am interested in setting up a similar system with a Mac mini. I have full in
love with my iPad but have only briefly played with a Mac it the Apple store. I
am sure that the Mac with VO would be sufficient for me as a computer but do
not know how well it would go in replacing the DVR functionality that we have
with our current Windows machine.
The Apple store sells a dongle that has duel TV tuners called an Eye TV. It
comes with software that seems similar to Media Centre so on the face of it
this should meet mine and my families needs however I have a few questions.
firstly has anyone had any experience with such a system? Does VO work well
with the Eye TV interface?
The Eye TV dongle plugs into the mini through one of its USB ports and is able
to record two channels at once. This seems to me to be a lot of data to try and
fit through one USB 2 port. The TV card is internal on our current machine.
Does anyone know if this is a valid concern? May be USB is able to take two HD
video streams.
We have more then enough good high def digital TV content on free to air in
Australia and don't have access to hulu or net flicks here so I really need the
Mac mini to be able to fully replace the DVR functionality of our current
machine before proposing the switch to my wife.
I hope someone can let me know their experiences.
Thanks,
Garth
