for the most part, irc and mac with voiceover isn't very good either. I have had some success with Xchat aqua and voiceover using growl, but join more than one chan or be in a busy chan and forget it. too much noise and no intelligibility. I have yet to find a way to get growl to use a faster read speed than the slow setting. I have alex (the main voice) set to over 300 wpm but using growl, it sits at a paltry 75 wpm. far too slow for my needs.
