That's really odd.  I tried a lot  of the commands in mail as I was composing, 
just to make sure I got all the modifiers right.  The fingers remember, but the 
brain forgets.  :)  Command up arrow and command down arrow take me to bottom 
and top of the message when composing.  I just checked and it also works when 
reading a message, which I wasn't aware of before.
