Hi Jane, to remove items from the Dock press CTRL + Option + Shift + M to open the context menue of a certain item. There you'll find "Options" with a sub menue. Open that and choose "remove from the dock". Then it should be removed.
To move from item to item just use the left and right arrow keys.
