They are easier to buy, and perhaps Apple has certified them to some level, 
just as they do for iPhone Apps.  The other major difference is that Apple 
receives a significant cut of the sale.  Apple has also  (just as they do with 
IOS devices) allowed you to migrate the licenses to newer systems using a DRM 
system.  THere are a few interesting discussions on the Net about how it the 
DRM  that Apple used can be bypassed on some Apps  but apparently Apple Sold 
1,000,0000  Applications in the first day.  So if the average price was $6 then 
they made $2,000,000 except it was probably higher since some of the more 
popular apps sold were Apple  iLife/iWork where Apple would get 100% of the 
revenue.
