I do that, typically.  However, the problem is that I then forget, at
least in the case of my phone, to turn it back on when I get home.
The macbook, now that I changed a setting in airport, doesn't yell at
me to connect every time I turn it on at work any more.  Though, it
still thinks it's connected to one of the networks at work even though
I can't actually use the internet.
