Well here's what was going on.

I was setting up my sound system, macbook pro, vestac vci 300 controller, sound
card and algoriddim DJ. I was analyzing BPMs for tracks which didn't have the
tag on, then proceeded to check if any had DRM that would restrict me from
mixing on dj. So i was testing various configurations on outputs, cueing etc,
then when i used the drm unlocker for my files, it told me that there were 200
such files that weren't found. That's when i checked and saw that my purchased
files alongside some other consolidated tracks mentioned invalid locations.

That's when things got as dark as zombie movies, jaw dropping to the floor and
brain activity to a halt.

On top of it, i had a rather small ssd on my macbook so my library is all on an
external portable firewire, and sometimes since i often go mobile, and having a
macbook air for traveling lightly, i sometimes merge stuff, and when i forget
to plug the external to the macbook, i then take the tracks left on the
internal back to the external, sort of a periodic cleaning operation.

This might have messed the xml up, and at some point deleted a bunch of files
from past purchased and ripped tracks. The fact that i had several audio
applications opened, that i was configuring tracks system sounds and itunes
with other applications might have exacerbated the issue.

However, i was forward thinking in backing the stuff up, and most of it is
recovered with the exception of those 3, which in fact are from an ensemble of
100 or so tracks which have totally dissapeared from my harddis. So the mystery
is still prevalent.

I made a disk utility check to see the external's integrity, no problems.

Whatever it is, i believe its time to make a full cleanup of itunes, just
isolate podcasts and other stuff, move all my tagged tracks to a temporary
folder, get rid of duplicates, and repopulate itunes for a fresh xml.

At any rate, this is odd and the nightmarish perspective of loosing my music
library is motivation enough to triple back it all.

My sunday has a perplexing albeit reassured end.
