Hi Marlaina: Chances are that in your address book, you have through various syncs to iPhone/iPad/iPod inadvertently created multiple contact cards. If you open your address book app, and explore, find the contact names. My guess is that there are some repeats in there. It just happens over time, and you can delete the extras.
