I have tried several ways to adjust the order of columns in Mail and none were 
successful.  I believe I used to do this when I I had sight.  I believe the 
process was to either drag the column headers (which can be found with the 
trackpad commander) or dragging the line between columns.  I would expect the 
latter would adjust widths and not position.  

Keep us informed if you find a way.
