Hi, I don't use the trackpad in mail for this reason. Its too slow. To do what you asked, you place one finger on the trackpad then press control. This will bring focus to the body of the e-mail. Now do a 2 finger swipe up to start reading the e-mail from the beginning. BTW, I believe this will only work if you have the preview pane open.
