Hello Michael, Anyone using standard SMTP based mail (whether it be Mac Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, or something else) will not be able to track when an email message they've sent out gets read, it just isn't possible.
So, the question is, what are your workmates using to read their mail, and would it benefit you to use what they're using? What exactly are the requirements that are driving this question? If the requirement truely is that you need to know when someone has read your mail, or they someone needs to know when you've read their mail, then I'd say it isn't possible unless you are all using some proprietary email system that supports this (not sure which one that would be) I'd be happy to help more with this, if you can provide more information.
