you aren't the only one. However, the devs at Skype have done several such interface tweaks. there also seems to be a problem with how Skype 5 notifies growl. if you are not focused on Skype chat, growl works ok after a fashion. However, if you are focused on the chat window, there is no growl output or even the sound that a message came in.
