Some like Open Office and it is free, but I prefer iWOrks. As far as faxing, my HP Laser Jet came with some really good software that is friendly enough to send/receive faxes. Well I have not tested the receive side really, but I can use ABBYY to scan whatever faxes come in. I do not receive faxes often, but send several and no problems.
