Have you tried using the Washington Post's mobile site instead?  The URL is:
http://mobile.washingtonpost.com/

Their iPad app is really inaccessible -- don't even try with this one.  For 
this kind of information (alternative mobile sites, and their ratings) I've 
found that a site called the WAP Review has very good information on the state 
and usability of mobile web site alternatives.  Here's the link to their WAP 
Review directory:
http://wapreview.com/?id=0

And if you do a Google search on "Washington Post WAP Review" (can all be lower 
case characters), you'll get the WAP Review 2009 article about how there were 
big improvements to the Washington Post mobile site.
