Hi Teresa,
Calibre actually can be used if you confine yourself to command line programs 
in Terminal.  It ships with several rather nice scripts, including 
ebook-convert to do command line conversions. As far as GUI programs, I can 
recommend Stanza.  It will convert between most popular formats. I can't recall 
the home page just at the moment, but GOogle is your friend.
