While this does not address the original post directly it does remind me of the hypercard program free on the original mac. It was a wonderful program which could easily do flash cards right out of the box and even formal application development of all kinds using the underlying programing language. It was in my mind one of the most powerful for users at all levels apps apple provided and a sad loss. It is not now available for os 10 but a segment of the below discusses clones including a free one which does work on os10.
