I thought Finder kind of worked with the command K option to connect to
server, but it loses connection and stuff for me. It's sort of like using
Windows Explorer on that platform, sort of but not the best.

you can't use Finder as an ftp client. Try Transmit. For me that's the most
accessible ftp client I know on the Mac.
