Hi Ashley and Others,
Earlier this year Yuma asked whether there was an easier way to save to Word
document format from Pages without having to use the export feature in Pages
each time. I ran a Google search for an AppleScript to batch export from
Pages09 to Word format and posted where to find this. I'll paste in the
instructions I found from the MacScripter site and posted in response to this
question:
<begin quote>
(From Yvan Koenig):
Go to my iDisk :
<http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
Download :
For_iWork:iWork '09:for_Pages09:batch_exportPages2DOC.zip
Yvan KOENIG (VALLAURIS, France)
<end quote>
You can set up a keyboard shortcut to this AppleScript so you can select your Pages output files in Finder
and apply the shortcut to convert them to Word format. I've checked and the files are still available at the
author's public idisk location given above. (The colons separate directories -- the batch_exportPages2DOC
script in zip format is in a folder named "for_Pages09" that is a subdirectory of "iWork
'09", that is in turn in a folder named "For_iWork".) Instructions are supplied in both
English and French
Incidentally, the Mail Archive pages for this list are extremely useful sources
to search for answers to previously discussed questions. I recovered the above
information by going to:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/
And typing into the search text box: "from:Esther Yuma Word" (without the quotation marks) to find
a post that I had authored that included the words "Yuma" and "Word", and immediately
pulled up the link to the post:
"AppleScript to batch export from Pages to Word [Re: :pages export annoyance]"

Searches can use wild cards, Boolean arguments, be made by author, subject, or
date range, and results can also be optionally sorted by time (instead of
relevance). You can also read up and down old threads with access key
shortcuts (on a Mac, this would be Control-n to read the next post in a thread
and Control-p to read a previous post, but these shortcuts also work for other
browsers if you substitute the appropirate access key (e.g., in Internet
Explorer on Windows you would use Alt-n and Alt-p instead.) For more
information, check the Mail Archive FAQ on searching:
http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#accesskeys
HTH. Cheers,
Esther

Because the majority of my teachers and schoolfriends don't use macs, and are always giving me word files. I use these regularly on the mac with no problems.
To be perfectly honest, i dont' use pages that often. In pages, if you want to save a file as a word file, you have to go through the process of exporting it, which doesnt' take that long it's just a little annoying. It would be nice if pages could just save in a word format.

You mentioned in a previous message that you use word. Why didn’t you use
Pages on the mac instead?

the mac will let you open them up and have no issues.

So break it down for me like I’m a 2 year old. Will I have to convert them
first, or the mac will let me open them up and have no issues?

Hi,
Text edit (comes witht eh mac), pages, open office, and pretty much any of the
other editors will open and save in word format. I use a macbook for school and
use word files constantly.

Well, I’ve got an awful lot of documents in word format, and it would be very
time consuming to convert them from word to pages. So is there a app that will
allow me to read word documents with voice over, or do I have to bite the
bullet and just run windows on my mac?
