Hello Carolyn, When you repair permissions from the Disk utility in your Utilities folder, there will always be certain items that cannot be repaired because they are in use. Some people, therefore, use the Disk Utility from their installation disk, which will do a more thorough job, but for most purposes, it isn't really necessary.
